DeLauro Votes to Pass 21st Century ROAD to Housing Act

May 21, 2026

Yesterday, U.S. Representative Rosa DeLauro (CT-03) voted to pass the 21st Century ROAD to Housing Act, a bipartisan package of bills to build more affordable housing nationwide. The bill passed the House by a vote of 396-13.

“Today, the House took a major bipartisan step towards addressing the affordability crisis by increasing the supply of housing,” said Congresswoman DeLauro. “American families are facing a cost-of-living crisis, with 22 million households nationwide spending over 30 percent of their paycheck on housing, and 12 million spending over 50 percent. The American Dream of homeownership has never felt further away, which is why we need an all-of-the-above approach that helps us build more homes nationwide. I urge my Senate colleagues to join the House in passing this historic housing reform.

As the lead Democrat on the Appropriations Committee, Congresswoman DeLauro is fighting against the proposed cuts to the HOME Investment Partnerships Program, the only federally funded program that supports affordable housing construction across the country, and the Neighborhood Reinvestment Corporation (NeighborWorks), which supports local organization expand affordable housing development and homeownership. The combined $785 million cut to these programs will lead to less affordable housing, and fewer chances for individuals and families to achieve the dream of homeownership.
