Introduce legislation to prevent discrimination against unemployed workers

New Haven, CT— Representatives Rosa DeLauro (CT-3) and Hank Johnson (GA-4) introduced the Fair Employment Opportunity Act of 2011 today, which would prohibit employers and employment agencies from discriminating against unemployed job-seekers by refusing to consider them for employment.

Defense Appropriations bill also includes Sikorsky and Pratt contracts

Washington, DC— Congresswoman Rosa DeLauro (CT-3), Ranking Member on the Labor, Education, Health, and Human Services Appropriations Subcommittee, voted in support of the final passage of the FY 2012 Defense Appropriations Bill today, which passed the House of Representatives by a vote of 336- 87.

Washington, DC—Congresswoman Rosa L. DeLauro (CT-3), Ranking Member on the Labor, Education, Health, and Human Services Appropriations Subcommittee, introduced the Layoff Prevention Act of 2011 today.

(New Haven, CT) – Senator Richard Blumenthal and Congresswoman Rosa DeLauro today joined representatives of the New Haven Manufacturing Alliance at Buchanan Marine in New Haven. Blumenthal and DeLauro took a tour of the facility and discussed the Manufacturing Reinvestment Account Act that they have introduced to the United States Congress.

The Manufacturing Reinvestment Account Act will enable manufacturers to invest new capital into equipment, facilities, and job training that will make them more competitive and enable them to grow.

New Haven, CT— Congresswoman Rosa L. DeLauro (CT-3) visited the Saint Martin de Porres Academy in New Haven today, speaking with students about the importance of education.

Saint Martin de Porres Academy operates an extended day schedule, with students attending classes for 11 months a year, 10 hours a day, with extra-curricular activities in the afternoon. The faith-based middle school is tuition-free, and seeks to provide a quality education to underserved children in New Haven.

Bill Will Help Women Enter Non-Traditional, Higher Wage Fields

WASHINGTON—In the wake of the Supreme Court’s damaging Wal-Mart employment discrimination case, Congressman Jared Polis (D-CO), Senator Barbara A. Mikulski (D-MD), Congresswoman Rosa L. DeLauro (D-CT), Senator Kirsten Gillibrand (D-NY), and Congresswoman Gwen Moore (D-WI) today introduced the Women and Workforce Investment for Nontraditional Jobs (Women WIN Jobs) Act, which would provide women with a pathway to higher paying job fields in which they are currently underrepresented.
