Washington, DC— Congresswoman Rosa L. DeLauro (CT-3) celebrated passage of the Gynecologic Cancer Education and Awareness Act of 2010, also known as Johanna's Law, which will reauthorize a national education campaign, led by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, to increase the awareness and knowledge of health care providers and women about gynecological cancers.

DeLauro (CT -3), Chairwoman of the FDA and Agriculture Appropriations Subcommittee, released the following statement today in response to the announcement by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) that it is recommending removing the breast cancer indication from the label for Avastin because the drug has not been shown to be safe and effective for that use.

DeLauro (CT -3) voted today in support of the Post-9/11 Veterans Educational Assistance Improvements Act (S.3447), which will improve the implementation and benefits of the historic Post-9/11 GI Bill. The bill, which was passed by the Senate, will now be sent to the President to be signed into law.

Re-introduces legislation to better protect American consumers


Washington, DC— Congresswoman Rosa DeLauro (CT-3), Chairwoman of the FDA and Agriculture Appropriations Subcommittee, announced today the reintroduction of the Single Food Safety Agency Act of 2010, which would create a federal agency exclusively focused on protecting the nation's food supply. Congresswoman DeLauro first introduced this legislation in 1999.

Washington, DC— Congresswoman Rosa DeLauro (CT-3), Chairwoman of the FDA and Agriculture Appropriations Subcommittee, released the following statement today praising the passage by the House of Representatives of the Full-Year Funding Act, a Continuing Resolution that freezes discretionary appropriations for FY 2011 at the FY 2010 level, at $45.9 billion less than the President's request.

Washington, DC— Congresswoman Rosa DeLauro (CT-3) expressed her support today for a public hearing regarding the proposed First Niagara Financial Group's application to acquire New Alliance Bancshares. The City of New Haven has asked for a public hearing to discuss citizens' concerns about the implications of this merger, specifically its impact on obtaining loans and community initiatives.

Congresswoman DeLauro sent a letter to Ivan Hurwitz, Vice President of the Federal Reserve Bank of New York, last week urging him to consider the request for a public hearing.
