DeLauro Condemns Trump Administration’s Planned Attack on Social Safety Net
WASHINGTON, DC — (May 14, 2019) Congresswoman Rosa DeLauro (CT-03) today released the following statement after the Trump Administration announced its intention to change guidelines related to poverty thresholds, which would affect who is eligible for programs like Medicaid, the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, and free and reduced school lunch.
"The Trump administration is gearing up for yet another attack on our nation's most vulnerable people. They seem to think it is a good idea to rig the system against people who are living paycheck-to-paycheck and intentionally drive them into poverty. People are struggling to pay their bills, put food on the table, keep a roof over their head, and keep up with the rising cost of healthcare. The last thing they need is to be wrongly excluded from programs that keep them and their children from going hungry or living without medical care. It is the height of cruelty, it is the wrong path for our country."
