DeLauro Statement on Jim Jones Appointment as Food and Drug Administration’s First Deputy Commissioner for Human Foods
Today, Congresswoman Rosa DeLauro (CT-03) released a statement on the Food and Drug Administration’s (FDA) appointment of Jim Jones to serve as the agency’s Deputy Commissioner for Human Foods.
“For far too long, food safety has been a second-class citizen at FDA. I have called on FDA to appoint an empowered and credentialed Deputy Commissioner to oversee their Human Foods program and I am pleased with the announcement today that Jim Jones will now lead the agency in this effort. I believe he is an excellent choice, particularly as FDA reinvigorates its regulatory mandate.
“I applaud FDA Commissioner Robert Califf for working diligently to implement the organizational changes recommended under the Regan-Udall Foundation’s report. I look forward to working with him and Deputy Commissioner Jones to correct the issues that have been plaguing FDA for far too long. We have much work to do.”
