DeLauro Statement on USDA Rule on School Meals
Congresswoman Rosa DeLauro (CT-03) today released a statement on an announced final rule from the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) on nutritious school meals.
“The final proposed rule announced by the USDA is welcome. It sets our children up for a healthy and thriving future. Since the start of this process, the USDA has been thoroughly engaged with critical stakeholders in this process – including school partners, parents, and food operators—striving to create balance in the changes to come. Schools, parents, kids, and the food industry can finally know that stability is on the way, as they will no longer operate under what was meant to be a temporary bridge rule.
“Improving nutrition standards while keeping food delicious is a key tool in the ongoing effort to ensure our children prosper. I applaud Secretary Vilsack and the Biden-Harris Administration for charging forward on improving USDA regulations on school meals so that we can provide more healthy, nutritious, and delicious meals to our kids across the nation.”
