WASHINGTON, DC—Congresswoman Rosa DeLauro (D-CT) and Congressman Lloyd Doggett (D-TX) reacted to the release of Treasury Guidance on Inversion Transactions today. DeLauro and Doggett, along with other Members of Congress, urged Treasury Secretary Jack Lew in September to publish an annual list of inverted companies and use executive authority to crack down on these tax avoidance schemes. Inversions occur when U.S. companies move their headquarters overseas, but only on paper, to avoid paying their fair share of U.S. taxes.
Members of Congress Condemn Voluntary GMO Labeling, Push for Mandatory GMO Labeling
WASHINGTON, DC—Rep. Rosa L. DeLauro today blasted announcements from the FDA approving weak GMO-labeling measures that deny consumers the right to know how the food they purchase for their families is produced.
The FDA also approved the application for AquAdvantage salmon, the first genetically-engineered animal sanctioned for human consumption. The agency also determined that manufacturers of AquAdvantage salmon will not be required to label the salmon as genetically-engineered.
