Washington, D.C. – Congresswoman Rosa L. DeLauro (Conn. – 3) –citing basic right and wrong, common sense, and the H1N1 influenza outbreak – testified about the importance of the Healthy Families Act, which would allow millions of Americans to earn paid sick days, so they would no longer have to choose between their health, their family’s health and their jobs, at an Education and Labor Subcommittee on Workforce Protections hearing on the legislation.

DeLauro (D-CT) praised "cash for clunkers" legislation – the Consumer Assistance to Recycle and Save Act (H.R. 2751) – which would allow consumers to trade in their old, gas-guzzling vehicles and receive vouchers worth up to $4,500 to help pay for new, more fuel efficient cars and trucks. This will result in meaningful reductions in auto emissions and fuel consumption, while providing much-needed stimulus for our ailing automakers.
Secures funding for CT's law enforcement, after-school programs
Washington, D.C. – Congresswoman Rosa L. DeLauro (CT-3) welcomed the community reinvestment reflected in the fiscal year 2010 Commerce-Justice-Science (CJS) Appropriations Bill and announced the inclusion of critical funding for crime prevention and local law enforcement efforts in Connecticut. The bill – approved today by the House Appropriations Committee – is at the start of the legislative process for approving the annual appropriations bills.

DeLauro (Conn. -3) announced over $2.2 million for medical research projects at universities in Connecticut, including Yale, Fairfield University, Connecticut College, and the University of Connecticut through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act for medical research. The National Institute of Health directs funding to projects that focus on basic research to improve the quality of life and reduce the burdens of illness and disability.
New Haven, CT – Congresswoman Rosa L. DeLauro (D-CT) announced a five year $4.5 million federal grant for the Community Foundation of Greater New Haven to continue its work addressing racial and ethnic disparities in health care. New Haven Healthy Start, which received its first federal grant in 1997 and is now in its fourth round of federal funding from the Department of Health and Human Services, has focused on providing a continuum of improvements to a fragmented maternal and child healthcare system to reduce the infant mortality and morbidity rate in the City.
Funding Made Available Through the Recovery Act
New Haven, CT – Congresswoman Rosa L. DeLauro (D-CT) announced that as a result of $200 million included in the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act, the National Health Services Corps is able to accept additional applications for its scholarship and loan repayment program, which provides loan repayments of up to $50,000 for clinicians who work in health centers, rural health clinics, and other health care facilities that care for the uninsured and underserved people.

DeLauro (Conn. -3) announced nearly $20 million for the Connecticut Department of Environmental Protection through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act for clean water efforts throughout the state, which includes $19.5 million for the state's Drinking Water State Revolving fund program and $485,000 for Water Quality Management Planning.
