Washington, D.C. – Congresswoman Rosa L. DeLauro (Conn. -3) announced $212,000 to repair the aging sea wall of the Outer Island through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act. Outer Island, the farthest of the Thimble Islands in Branford, is an outdoor classroom for the Connecticut State University and is part of the Stewart B. McKinney National Wildlife Refuge.

Washington, D.C. – Congresswoman Rosa L. DeLauro (Conn. -3) issued the following statement on the decision by the Defense Department's Office of the Inspector General to withdraw a report it issued regarding the Pentagon's propaganda program revealed last year. Last year, DeLauro, led a coalition of Members to press for the investigation and joined with colleagues to successfully include language in the Fiscal Year 2009 National Defense Authorization Act requiring the IG to submit a report to Congress.

The National Institute of Health directs funding to projects that focus on basic research to improve the quality of life and reduce the burdens of illness and disability.

Washington, D.C. – Congresswoman Rosa L. DeLauro (Conn. -3) issued the following statement on the Obama's Administration's announcement of efforts to reform the tax code to curb the abuse of offshore tax shelters and eliminate tax incentives for shifting jobs overseas. Earlier this year, DeLauro, with Congressman Lloyd Doggett, re-introduced the Stop Tax Haven Abuses Act (H.R. 1265) to close the loopholes that allow offshore tax shelters and cost taxpayers nearly $100 billion a year.

Washington, D.C. – Congresswoman Rosa L. DeLauro (Conn. -3) announced that the Peabody Museum of Natural History at Yale University will receive a federal grant of $149,282 through the Institute of Museum and Library Services to conserve and rehouse approximately 7,600 specimens in the Vertebrate Paleontology Fossil Fish collection. While the Institute received 129 applications for a Conservation Project Support grant, the Peabody was one of thirty-five selected to receive funding.

New Haven, CT – Congresswoman Rosa L. DeLauro (Conn. -3) issued the following statement on confirmation that a Connecticut resident tested positive for influenza A H1N1.

"It has now been confirmed that a resident of Stratford has tested positive for the influenza A H1N1 and Connecticut now joins the nearly two dozen other states who also have confirmed cases. I know public health officials are working tirelessly and aggressively to minimize the severity of the outbreak and closely monitor for additional cases.

Joining DeLauro were Jack Mordente, Director of Veterans Affairs at Southern Connecticut State University, Gerry Jacques of the US Department of Veterans Affairs, Office of Education, and Cheryl Norton, President of SCSU. Last year the Congress fought for landmark legislation, the GI Bill for the 21st Century – signed into law on June 30, 2008 – to greatly expand educational benefits.

Common sense reform to protect families from abusive credit card practices

Washington, D.C. – Congresswoman Rosa L. DeLauro (CT-3) joined with colleagues to pass the Credit Cardholders Bill of Rights (H.R. 627), of which she is an original cosponsor, to provide critical protections against unreasonable, but common, credit card practices. Credit card debt in the United States has reached a record high – nearly $1 trillion – as credit card company profits have skyrocketed.
