Washington, D.C. – As people in Connecticut, Washington, D.C. and other cities gather for the Global Race for the Cure, a number of high-profile organizations reiterated their strong support for Congresswoman Rosa L. DeLauro's (CT-3) bipartisan Breast Cancer Patient Protection Act (H.R. 1691) and urged its passage. The legislation would allow a woman and her doctor to decide whether she should recuperate from a mastectomy or lumpectomy for at least 48 hours in the hospital or whether she has enough support to get quality care at home.

Woodbury will receive $888,270 in recovery funding to restore 65 acres of floodplain to its natural state through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act. This is part of the USDA's effort to restore floodplains to ensure they work properly while helping maintain jobs in rural America.

Washington, D.C. – Congresswoman Rosa L. DeLauro (D-CT) issued the following statement commending the Connecticut General Assembly for approving legislation to require major chain restaurants to publish the number of calories for each food item on their printed menus and menu boards.

DeLauro has championed similar legislation at the federal level, the Menu Education and Labeling (MEAL) Act , to require chain restaurants with 20 or more business locations to provide consumers with information on calories, sodium, saturated and trans fat, and carbohydrates.

New Haven, CT – Congresswoman Rosa L. DeLauro (Conn. -3) announced that the State of Connecticut will receive $1.82 million through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act to aid efforts to prevent violence against women. These funds will allow the state to hire and retain criminal justice and victim services personnel who respond to violent crimes against women, as well as support other strategies that create and preserve jobs and promote economic growth while improving responses to domestic violence, dating violence, sexual assault and stalking.

New Haven, CT – Congresswoman Rosa L. DeLauro (Conn. -3) announced $58.5 million for the state of Connecticut in unemployment insurance (UI) modernization funds through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act, which the Department of Labor can use to pay unemployment benefits or, if appropriated by the legislature, for administering its unemployment insurance program or delivering employment services. Connecticut – one of three states to qualify to date – qualified for the funds by allowing workers to use their more recent earnings to qualify for benefits.

DeLauro (Conn. -3) announced over $1.6 million for Yale University and the University of Connecticut through the American Reinvestment and Recovery Act to be put towards biomedical research. The National Institute of Health directs funding to projects that focus on basic research to improve the quality of life and reduce the burdens of illness and disability.
