Washington, D.C. – Congresswoman Rosa DeLauro (CT-3) welcomed the announcement that Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Connecticut's request to raise their individual health insurance policy rates by as much as 32 percent was denied by the Connecticut Insurance Department. Earlier this week, DeLauro, joined by Congressman Joe Courtney (CT-2) wrote to Anthem President David Fusco urging the company to withdraw the increase that is expected to affect over 55,000 Connecticut residents.

Washington, D.C. – Congresswoman Rosa L. DeLauro (Conn.-3) applauded the Energy and Water Appropriations Bill for fiscal year 2010 for its support of all areas of energy, significant investments in critical infrastructure, and advancement of non-proliferation efforts. The bill was approved by the full Appropriations Committee Tuesday [7 July] evening and will now be debated by the House, following passage there, the legislation will also need to be voted on by the Senate, approved by both chambers and signed by the President.

New Haven, CT - Congresswoman Rosa L. DeLauro (CT-3) issued the following statement on the announcement that Connecticut Governor M. Jodi Rell will veto state legislation to require major chain restaurants to publish the number of calories for each food item on their printed menus and menu boards.

DeLauro has championed similar legislation at the federal level, the Menu Education and Labeling (MEAL) Act, to require chain restaurants with 20 or more business locations to provide consumers with information on calories, sodium, saturated and trans fat, and carbohydrates.

New Haven, CT – Congresswoman Rosa L. DeLauro (Conn. – 3) announced that the Connecticut Department of Transportation will receive over $68.6 million through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act for two projects – the purchase of 136 buses for six divisions of CTTransit (Hartford, Stamford, New Haven, Waterbury, New Britain, and Statewide Commuter Express) and improvements to nine Park & Ride lots located in Middletown, Columbia, Manchester, Vernon, Waterbury, Meriden, Southington, and Windsor Locks.

New Haven, CT – Congresswoman Rosa L. DeLauro (Conn. – 3) announced $26.1 million in funding for affordable housing programs in Connecticut through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act. The new Tax Credit Assistance Program at the Department of Housing and Urban Development will allow the Connecticut Housing Finance Authority to resume funding of affordable rental housing projects across the state while stimulating employment in the construction industry.

New Haven, CT – Congresswoman Rosa L. DeLauro (Conn. – 3) announced that Connecticut will receive $15.4 million in State Energy Program funding through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act to create or protect jobs and save energy with several projects, including in-home energy audits and the deployment of a variety of technologies, such as alternative-fuel vehicles. This is 40% of the total State Energy Program funding authorized.
