New Haven, CT – C Congresswoman Rosa L. DeLauro (CT-3) announced that nearly $450,000 of new funding is being distributed to the Connecticut State Health Insurance Assistance Program (SHIP), the CHOICES program, to help Medicare beneficiaries in Connecticut get more information about their health care choices. CHOICES, "Connecticut's program for Health insurance assistance, Outreach, Information and referral, Counseling, Eligibility Screening" program, is a "one-stop shopping" information source for services available to older adults in Connecticut.
Washington, DC – Congresswoman Rosa L. DeLauro (Conn. -3) announced $29 million for the state of Connecticut in unemployment insurance (UI) modernization funds through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act, which the Department of Labor can use to pay unemployment benefits or, if appropriated by the legislature, for administering its unemployment insurance program or delivering employment services. Connecticut – one of three states to qualify to date – qualified for the funds by allowing workers to use their more recent earnings to qualify for benefits.
New Haven, CT – Congresswoman Rosa L. DeLauro (Conn. -3) issued the following statement on the proposed Pentagon budget for fiscal year 2010 announced by Defense Secretary Robert M. Gates.
"As we move forward in the coming years it is critical that our Armed Forces have the equipment they need to effectively and efficiently do their jobs. This budget makes some difficult choices and takes a significant step to reform the troubled Pentagon acquisition process. In some areas I think this budget accomplishes that, but unfortunately there are areas that should be revisited.
New Haven, CT – Congresswoman Rosa L. DeLauro (Conn. -3) called for strong federal funding of programs that support firefighters, focusing on the important Assistance to Firefighters Grant (AFG) Program and the Staffing for Adequate Fire and Emergency Response (SAFER) grant programs. Taken together these competitive grant programs ensure that we not only have the number of firefighters we needs, but that these firefighters have the training and equipment they need to safely protect our communities.
Washington, DC – Congresswoman Rosa L. DeLauro (Conn. -3) announced nearly $1.1 million to help increase energy efficiency in two federal buildings in New Haven through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act.
"Making our buildings more energy efficient is a good investment that will help us emerge from this recession while setting us on the path to energy reform. With this federal funding, we will not only create new, green jobs for Connecticut residents, but we will lay the ground work for a cleaner, more cost-effective future for the city of New Haven," said DeLauro.
