Washington, DC—The House Majority today dug in and continued to deny the financial pressures facing American women, refusing to even debate the Paycheck Fairness Act on the floor. The Senate will take up the bill on Tuesday and President Obama has committed to signing the legislation should it come to his desk. The Paycheck Fairness Act closes loopholes in the Equal Pay Act of 1963 by putting teeth in that law's enforcement provisions and banning retaliation against workers who discuss their wages.
Washington, DC—The Connecticut Congressional Delegation responded today to the joint Federal Energy Regulatory Commission/North America Electric Reliability Corporation report into the causes and unacceptable response of Connecticut Light & Power and its parent company, Northeast Utilities, to last October's snowstorm that left more than two million households without power, including over 850,000 in Connecticut. The delegation called for the investigation last year.
Washington, DC— Congresswoman Rosa L. DeLauro (D-CT) made the following opening statement at a Steering and Policy Committee Hearing on equal pay this afternoon. Members heard from women who have real-life experience with gender-based pay discrimination and scholar and author Barbara Ehrenreich. The Senate will vote Tuesday on the Paycheck Fairness Act, of which DeLauro is the original author. DeLauro also read a statement at the hearing from Lilly Ledbetter, the namesake of the 2009 law that ensured employees' rights to challenge pay discrimination.

Washington, DC – Congresswoman Rosa DeLauro and Senator Richard Blumenthal today announced a total of $600,000 in grants from the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) for brownfield cleanup and assessment in central Connecticut. The City of Middletown will receive $200,000 for brownfield cleanup at the former Midstate Autobody site and the Valley Council of Governments will receive $400,000 to assess contamination levels and plan for the remediation of brownfields.

Washington, DC – Congresswoman Rosa DeLauro (D-CT) today offered an amendment to the FY13 State-Foreign Operations Appropriations bill that would provide $39 million for the United Nations Population Fund. The funding would be available solely for preventing and treating cases of obstetric fistula, promoting the end of female genital mutilation and ensuring safe childbirth and emergency obstetric care in underdeveloped countries. Despite garnering 24 bipartisan votes, the amendment was defeated 24-24 by Republicans who sought to deny critical care to women around the world.
