(Washington, DC) –Senator Joe Lieberman (I-CT), Senator Richard Blumenthal (D-CT), Congressman John Larson (CT-1), Congresswoman Rosa DeLauro (CT-3), and Congressman Jim Himes (CT-4) today announced $9.9 million in workforce development grants for the Workplace Inc. and Capital Workforce Partners to target long term unemployed populations by providing them with education, career skills, and job placement assistance for jobs in the health care industry.

New Haven, CT — Congresswoman Rosa DeLauro (CT-3) held a press availability today with local Mayors, First Selectmen, and Town Managers from the Third Congressional District following a meeting about the response to Tropical Storm Irene.

The purpose of the meeting was to discuss the disaster response of local communities, the state, and the federal government and to find out what worked, what problems were encountered, and how to improve future responses.

"Today, Chairman Rehberg posted on the Internet a draft bill and other materials, representing his proposals for the fiscal year 2012 Labor-HHS-Education Appropriations Act.

Washington, DC — Representatives Rosa DeLauro (CT-3) and Hank Johnson (GA-4) called for a hearing on the Fair Employment Opportunity Act today.

This legislation would make the recent trend in companies discriminating against the unemployed by refusing to consider them for job openings illegal. Many companies have begun to require current employment in order to be considered for an available position, and these discriminatory practices are eliminating employment opportunities.

131,300 pounds of ground beef potentially contaminated with E. coli
