Washington, DC – Congresswoman Rosa L. DeLauro (Conn. -3) praised the Child Tax Credit provision in the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (H.R. 1). Economists have called the refundable tax credit, one of the most stimulative, as well as among the most targeted and most efficient in getting the economy moving.

WASHINGTON, D.C.– U.S. Senator Dick Durbin (D-IL) and Congresswoman Rosa DeLauro (D-CT) wrote a letter to the Secretary of Agriculture, Tom Vilsack, thanking him for his recent comments in support of a single food safety agency and requesting a meeting to discuss modernization of the nation's food safety system.

DeLauro (CT-3) issued the following statement following news from the Labor Department that in January the economy shed another 598,000jobs – the largest monthly job loss since the start of the recession in December of 2007. This brings the total payroll jobs lost to 3.6 million since the start of the recession. Additionally, the job-loss figures for December were revised upward – to 577,000 from the earlier number of 524,000. Further the unemployment rate jumped to 7.6 percent from 7.2 percent in December.
