United States Representatives Rosa DeLauro (D-CT-03), Bill Pascrell, Jr. (D-NJ-09), Brian Fitzpatrick (R-PA-01), and Victoria Spartz (R-IN-05) today introduced the National Critical Capabilities Defense Act (NCCDA) to establish a review process that would protect the United States supply chain from foreign adversaries like China and Russia. This legislation would create a whole-of-government screening process for outbound investments and the offshoring of critical capacities and supply chains to ensure that the United States can quickly detect supply chain vulnerabilities.

House Appropriations Committee Chair Rosa DeLauro (CT-03), a 35-year ovarian cancer survivor, celebrated the passage of her legislation to reauthorize Johanna’s Law, a national education campaign led by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) to increase the awareness about the symptoms, risk factors, and prevention of gynecologic cancers such as ovarian, uterine, and cervical cancers, as a part of the PREVENT HPV Cancers Act. As Chair of the Labor-Health and Human Services-Education Appropriations Subcommittee, DeLauro has ensured continued funding for Johanna’s Law, $29 million over the last three years, despite its authorization expiring in October 2014.

Congresswoman Rosa DeLauro (CT-03) and Senator Edward J. Markey (D-Mass.) today reintroduced the Flu Vaccine Act, legislation to conduct or support comprehensive research for the creation of a universal influenza vaccine or prevention that protects against multiple strains of the flu virus and offers longer-lasting protection. The legislation calls for a total investment of $1 billion for the National Institutes of Health (NIH) for this research. Senator Markey and his colleagues were able to secure $540 million in appropriations over the past three years for universal flu vaccine research at the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases within NIH, including $200 million in fiscal year 2020.
