That time frame includes December’s crash in the Bronx and last May’s employee death in West Haven.

NEW HAVEN, CT—Congresswoman Rosa DeLauro (D-CT) released the following statement today on the Social Security Administration’s announcement that recipients will see just a 1.7 percent increase in benefits next year. The increase is only slightly larger than last year’s 1.5 percent increase, which was among the smallest since Social Security began automatically making cost of living adjustments in 1975.

$549,898 Will Support Agricultural Research and Development

NEW HAVEN, CT—Congresswoman Rosa DeLauro (CT-3) today applauded the news that Wallingford’s Proton Energy Systems and North Haven’s Precision Combustion have been awarded a total of $549,898 from the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA). The grant was competitively awarded through the Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) program.

NEW HAVEN, CT—Congresswoman Rosa DeLauro (CT-3) decried today’s World Trade Organization (WTO) compliance ruling against U.S. country-of-origin (COOL) meat labeling policies. The United States could face large trade sanctions unless the Obama administration weakens a popular consumer information program. The U.S. has one chance to appeal this decision before the WTO issues a final, binding ruling.

Ebola Outbreak Underscores Importance of Investing In Biomedical Research

NEW HAVEN, CT—Congresswoman Rosa DeLauro (CT-3), joined by leaders in Connecticut’s biomedical community, today called for more funding for the National Institutes of Health (NIH). Last month DeLauro introduced the Accelerating Biomedical Research Act, which would allow current budget caps to be adjusted for increased NIH investments.

WASHINGTON, DC--The Democratic members of the House of Representatives Labor-Health and Human Services (HHS)-Education Appropriations Subcommittee today called on Appropriations Committee Chairman Hal Rogers (R-KY) to direct Subcommittee Chairman Jack Kingston (R-GA) to immediately hold a hearing on the detrimental effect of cuts to our public health infrastructure. Since October 7, the Democratic members of the subcommittee have twice called on Kingston to hold such a hearing.
