NEW HAVEN, CT—Congresswoman Rosa DeLauro (CT-3) today called on Congress to go back to Washington before the November election and vote for increased funding for biomedical research. She did so at a visit to Meriden’s Protein Sciences, which is working on an Ebola vaccine. Both the National Institutes of Health (NIH) and the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) are crucial to Protein Science’s work on this possible vaccine.

NEW HAVEN, CT—Congresswoman Rosa DeLauro (CT-3) announced today US Veterans Affairs (VA) Secretary Robert A. McDonald is extending benefits for 10 Connecticut veterans to stay at Seacrest Retirement Home and HighVue Manor for an additional year. Without Secretary McDonald’s intervention they would have lost their benefits that allowed them to stay at the facilities.

Malloy and the members of Connecticut’s Congressional delegation are applauding an announcement made by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) and the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) that $475,900 in rental vouchers will be made available to local public housing agencies in Connecticut to help 54 homeless veterans find permanent supportive housing.

NEW HAVEN, CT—Congresswoman Rosa DeLauro (CT-3) applauded the West Haven Housing Authority today for receiving a $99,886 federal grant to alleviate veteran homelessness. That money means 12 vouchers will be available to get veterans off the streets or out of shelters and into a permanent home. The grant announced today has been made possible by the Department of Housing and Urban Development-Veterans Affairs Supportive Housing (HUD-VASH) Program.

WATERBURY, CT—Congresswomen Rosa DeLauro (CT-3) and Elizabeth Esty (CT-5) today announced a $1,706,025 Trade Adjustment Assistance Community College and Career Training Grant (TAACCCT) grant from the U.S. Department of Labor (U.S. DOL) to Naugatuck Valley Community College (NVCC) to support manufacturing training. The grant is part of $15 million awarded to a consortium of 13 Connecticut colleges to expand the Connecticut Advanced Manufacturing Initiative (CAMI) from four community colleges to 13 community colleges, plus Charter Oak State College.
