(Hartford, CT) - U.S. Senator Richard Blumenthal (D-Conn.), Congresswoman Rosa DeLauro (D-3), Hamden Mayor Scott Jackson, Connecticut Speaker of the House Brendan Sharkey (D-Hamden) and the Hamden Economic Development Corporation announced today a $1.5 million federal Economic Development Administration grant to rehab the former Newhall Community Center into a 40,000-square-foot business incubator, providing vital support, resources and services to local start-ups and new small businesses.

The Newhall Community Center has been closed since 2002.

NEW HAVEN, CT—Congresswoman Rosa DeLauro and Senator Chris Murphy today joined Connecticut hourly workers, labor unions and other organizations fighting for fair scheduling practices to discuss the Schedules That Work Act. The bill was introduced by DeLauro in July to establish fair and reasonable workplace scheduling practices. Murphy is a cosponsor of the Senate version of the bill.

NEW HAVEN, CT—Congresswoman Rosa DeLauro (D-CT) released the following statement today in response to the Department of Treasury’s announced actions to curb corporate inversions:

“Today’s announcement is a good first step toward reigning in corporate inversions. Some of the loopholes and tax avoidance schemes employed by these corporate deserters will now be closed. Congress must now act to stop companies from inverting and dodging their tax obligations at the expense of companies who pay their fair share.

WASHINGTON, DC—Representatives Rosa DeLauro (D-CT) and Brian Higgins (D-NY) today introduced the Accelerating Biomedical Research Act, which would allow the budget cap put in place by the Budget Control Act (BCA) to be adjusted for increased investments in the National Institute of Health (NIH). Doing so would allow the appropriations committees to restore NIH funding to the purchasing power it would have if it had kept up with inflation since 2003.

WASHINGTON, DC—Congresswoman Rosa DeLauro (D-CT) today introduced the Foreign Investment and Economic Security Act of 2014 (FIESA), which would require the Committee on Foreign Investment in the United States (CFIUS) to consider the net benefit of any transaction between a foreign and American company. CFIUS is authorized to review proposed deals that could result in an American business being controlled by a foreign one.
