WASHINGTON, DC—Congresswoman Rosa DeLauro (D-CT) released the following statement today applauding the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA)’s proposed rule that would require raw ground beef makers to keep records on where that beef comes from. This will ensure that in the event of a foodborne illness outbreak investigators can trace meat back to its source, speeding up the recall process.

Last night Lew urged Congress to end mergers in which a company incorporated in America buys a foreign company and moves their operations abroad to avoid paying taxes, commonly called inversions.

Hartford, CT – The Connecticut Congressional delegation today announced a $1.2 million federal Staffing for Adequate Fire and Emergency Response (SAFER) Recruitment and Retention grant for the Connecticut Fire Chiefs Association to help recruit and retain local volunteer firefighters. The funds will help support 15 local departments over a two-year period through marketing campaigns, mentoring programs, technology, planning, media assistance, and leadership training.

WASHINGTON, DC—Representatives Rosa DeLauro (D-CT) and Lloyd Doggett (D-TX) today continued to their quest to ensure the federal government no longer awards contracts to corporate tax dodgers. The representatives won approval of an amendment banning contracts by any federal government entity with corporations that were incorporated in the United States, but have been reincorporated in the tax havens of Bermuda or the Cayman Islands.

WASHINGTON – Today, members of the Connecticut Congressional Delegation asked the United States Postal Service (USPS) for a full assessment of its consolidation plan’s impact on employees in Connecticut. The USPS’s plan – which consolidates a number of postal processing facilities, and delays mail delivery and costs jobs in order to cut operating costs – affects the processing and distribution centers in Wallingford, Stamford, and Hartford. The USPS is planning to resume this plan which began in 2012.

(Hartford, CT) – The Connecticut Congressional delegation today announced a $488,750 federal grant for the State Fire Training Academy to purchase a pumper truck to replace an outdated twenty year-old apparatus. The new pumper truck will allow newly trained firefighters from across the state to train with the most modern technology and equipment available, increasing firefighter safety, enhancing educational opportunities and reducing repair and maintenance costs.

WASHINGTON, DC – Today, U.S. Representatives Rosa DeLauro (D-CT) and Paul Tonko (D-NY) led 12 of their colleagues in calling for the Office of the United States Trade Representative (USTR) to stop using inaccurate data while making their case for future Free Trade Agreements (FTAs), including the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP).

WASHINGTON, DC—Representatives Rosa DeLauro (D-CT) and Lloyd Doggett (D-TX) today won approval of a ban on contracts by the Department of Energy or Army Corps of Engineers with corporations that were incorporated in the United States, but have been reincorporated in the tax havens of Bermuda or the Cayman Islands. The proposal was offered as an amendment to the Fiscal Year 2015 Energy and Water Appropriations bill. The final vote on the amendment was 221-200. The House of Representatives is expected to vote on the bill tonight.

WASHINGTON, DC—Representatives Rosa DeLauro (D-CT) and Louise Slaughter (D-NY) today renewed their call for the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA)’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) to halt operations at Foster Farms processing plants involved in the ongoing Salmonella Heidelberg recall until the source of the contamination is identified and eliminated. The Salmonella outbreak has sickened over 600 people in 29 states.
