Inadequacies in Protecting Worker Rights in Deal Must Not be repeated in TPP

NEW HAVEN, CT—Congresswoman Rosa DeLauro (D-CT) released the following statement today marking the two year anniversary of the United States-Colombia Trade Promotion Agreement. The anniversary comes as negotiations over a potential Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) free trade agreement are ongoing in Vietnam, where workers face many of the same exploitative conditions as those in Colombia. DeLauro is a member of the Congressional Monitoring Group on Labor Rights in Colombia.

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Four Democratic members of the House of Representatives—Rosa DeLauro, George Miller, Louise Slaughter and Paul Tonko—today called on the U.S. Trade Representative (USTR) to be upfront about the true cost of the Korea Free Trade Agreement (FTA), signed two years ago. The Korea FTA is a template for the proposed Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) and both are based on the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA), which has shipped jobs overseas and weakened the middle class.

WASHINGTON, DC—Four members of Connecticut’s congressional delegation announced today that $203,089 in federal grant money is coming to the Orange Volunteer Fire Association and the Waterbury Fire Department. Orange will be receiving $111,626 and Waterbury $91,464 in Assistance to Firefighter Grant Operations & Safety awards.
