Today’s Public Citizen Report Shows U.S. Exports to Korea down since 2012

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Four Democratic members of the House of Representatives—Rosa DeLauro, George Miller, Louise Slaughter and Paul Tonko—today called on the U.S. Trade Representative (USTR) to be upfront about the true cost of the Korea Free Trade Agreement (FTA), signed two years ago. The Korea FTA is a template for the proposed Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) and both are based on the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA), which has shipped jobs overseas and weakened the middle class.

Funds Will Be Used To Train First Responders, Purchase Life-Saving Equipment

WASHINGTON, DC—Four members of Connecticut’s congressional delegation announced today that $203,089 in federal grant money is coming to the Orange Volunteer Fire Association and the Waterbury Fire Department. Orange will be receiving $111,626 and Waterbury $91,464 in Assistance to Firefighter Grant Operations & Safety awards.

WASHINGTON, DC—Congresswoman Rosa DeLauro (D-CT) released the following statement today applauding the updated guidance issued by Secretary of Education Arne Duncan and Attorney General Eric Holder. The guidance makes clear that public elementary and secondary schools cannot discriminate against minors attempting to get an education. DeLauro is the senior Democrat on the subcommittee responsible for funding the Department of Education.

WASHINGTON, DC—Congresswoman Rosa DeLauro (D-CT) today decried the proposed allocations for labor, health and education programs, which were opposed by all Democrats on the Appropriations Committee. DeLauro is the senior Democrat on the Labor-Health and Human Services-Education Appropriations Subcommittee. The Republican Majority is attempting to cut over $1 billion from programs that fund critical areas such as medical research, early childhood education, job training programs, education for children with special needs, and worker safety programs.

NEW HAVEN, CT—Three of Connecticut’s representatives to Congress—Rosa DeLauro, Jim Himes and Elizabeth Esty—today unveiled, the Rail Safety Enforcement Act, comprehensive legislation to enhance rail safety. They are joined by New York Congressman Sean Patrick Maloney as an original cosponsor. The four representatives announced their intent to introduce the legislation last month and are formally introducing the bill today.

In February 8.7 million pounds – one year’s worth of production – of beef and cow parts from Rancho were recalled.
