Washington, DC— Congresswoman Rosa DeLauro (CT-3) released the following statement today in response to the recall of approximately 635,000 cribs produced by the Dorel Asia company. The recall was prompted by a suffocation and strangulation hazard when a piece of hardware fails. One death has already been reported, and 10 more infants have been injured by these cribs.

Both of these facilities have benefited from American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) funding through the National Institutes of Health (NIH), and have made tremendous scientific advances. Nearly 300 projects at Yale University have been funded with $121 million ARRA dollars in 2010, creating and retaining 254 jobs.

Bisphenol A (BPA) has been present in hard plastic bottles, metal-based food and beverage cans, and items such as CDs and sunglasses, for decades.
