Urges calm reaction by the public, better quality testing by vaccine suppliers

Washington, DC— Congresswoman Rosa DeLauro (CT-3) today released the following statement in response to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recalling over 800,000 doses of H1N1 flu vaccine. The vaccine is still safe. However, the recall was announced because routine, ongoing testing performed by the manufacturer, Sanofi Pasteur, found that the strength of the vaccine (potency) of four batches of pediatric syringes had dropped below pre-specified limits.

Washington, DC— Congresswoman Rosa DeLauro (CT-3) today released the following statement in reaction to a Consumer Product Safety Commission recall to repair nearly all types of Roman shades and roll-up blinds due to a strangulation risk for young children who could become entangled in the cords.

Recent recommendations suggested screening unnecessary for women aged 40-49

Washington, DC— Congresswoman Rosa DeLauro (CT-3) today released the following statement in support of the Breast Cancer Screening Resolution, H.R. 971.

The resolution is a reaction to a of new set of recommendations made by the U.S. Preventive Task Force that suggest mammogram screenings are not necessary for women aged 40 to 40 and recommends against teaching women how to self-examine themselves. The Task Force is an independent panel and does not dictate federal policy.

Washington, DC— Congresswoman Rosa DeLauro (CT-3), along with 42 of her colleagues, sent a letter today to Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius requesting a re-examination of a Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) policy that places a 24-month limit on funding provided by the Ryan White Treatment Modernization Act being used by individuals living with HIV/ AIDS for housing.

Washington, DC— Congresswoman Rosa DeLauro (CT-3) today released the following statement in response to a new study released by the U.S. Environment Protection Agency on artificial turf playing fields and playgrounds composed of recycled tire material, or tire crumb.

The study was conducted to order to develop better tests and help the EPA to address questions of safety with tire crumb being used in recreational fields. Though limited in size and scope, the study found that the presence of harmful materials in the tire crumb was below the levels considered to be harmful.
