Responds to recall of approximately 635,000 Dorel Asia cribs due to safety hazard


Washington, DC— Congresswoman Rosa DeLauro (CT-3) released the following statement today in response to the recall of approximately 635,000 cribs produced by the Dorel Asia company. The recall was prompted by a suffocation and strangulation hazard when a piece of hardware fails. One death has already been reported, and 10 more infants have been injured by these cribs.

Washington, DC— Congresswoman Rosa DeLauro (CT-3) released the following statement today in reaction to the recall of approximately 864,000 pounds of beef products potentially contaminated with E. coli by the Montebello, California-based company Huntington Meat Packing Inc. The recalled products include foodstuffs produced as far back as 2008.

Washington, DC— Today, Congresswoman Rosa DeLauro (CT-3) visited the research facilities of the Department of Psychiatry and Connecticut Mental Health Center in New Haven. Both of these facilities have benefited from American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) funding through the National Institutes of Health (NIH), and have made tremendous scientific advances. Nearly 300 projects at Yale University have been funded with $121 million ARRA dollars in 2010, creating and retaining 254 jobs.

Washington, DC— Congresswoman Rosa DeLauro (CT-3) released the following statement today in response to the report issued by the FDA stating that Bisphenol A (BPA), an industrial chemical used to harden plastic products, may not be safe for young children.

Bisphenol A (BPA) has been present in hard plastic bottles, metal-based food and beverage cans, and items such as CDs and sunglasses, for decades.

Washington, DC— Congresswoman Rosa DeLauro (CT-3) today praised the award of over $57,000 for the Housing Authority of the City of New Haven.

The funds, allocated by the Department of Housing and Urban Development's Family Self Sufficiency Program, will enable the local Public Housing Agency to hire a program coordinator. This coordinator will be responsible for linking residents with job training opportunities, placement organizations, and local employers.

Washington, DC— Congresswoman Rosa DeLauro (CT-3) celebrated the award of $231,362 to the Center for Community Self Help in New Haven by the Department of Housing and Urban Development's Neighborhood Stabilization Program.

The funds are part of $2 billion provided by the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act to applications who address the housing crisis in an inventive and responsible way. They recognize organizations and communities dedicated to fighting the effects of vacant and abandoned homes while creating local jobs.
