Washington, D.C. – Congresswoman Rosa L. DeLauro (Conn. – 3), chairwoman of the Agriculture, Rural Development, and Food and Drug Administration Appropriations Subcommittee, issued the following statement following the recall of Nestle Toll House refrigerated cookie dough products because of potential Escherichia coli 0157:H7 (E. Coli) contamination. It has been reported that 66 people in 28 states have become ill, 25 cases required hospitalization.

Appropriations Committee Markup: Agriculture, Rural Development, FDA Appropriations Bill for Fiscal Year 2010

Washington, D.C. – Congresswoman Rosa L. DeLauro (Conn.-3), chairwoman of the House Agriculture, Rural Development, Food and Drug Administration and Related Agencies Appropriations Subcommittee, delivered the following statement at the full committee markup of the fiscal year 2010 bill. The bill includes $22.9 billion in total discretionary spending – a $2.3 billion increase from fiscal year 2009 –which reflects proposed cuts totaling more than $721 million.

Introduces legislation to renew Johanna's Law and continue effort to stop preventable deaths from gynecological cancers

Washington, D.C. – Congresswoman Rosa L. DeLauro (Conn. – 3), a 23-year survivor of ovarian cancer, introduced the Gynecologic Cancer Education and Awareness Act of 2009 – also known as Johanna's Law – to reauthorize the education campaign led by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention to increase the awareness and knowledge of health care providers and women with respect to gynecological cancers.

Washington, D.C. – Representatives Rosa L. DeLauro (CT – 3) and Jim Himes (CT-4) issued the following statement after a single-engine plane trying to land at Sikorsky Memorial Airport this morning skidded off the end of the runway and crashed into the Main Street Fence. While the seven aboard the plane appear to be unharmed, the incident seems to be at the same location as several other plane incidents have occurred over the years.

"We are relieved to learn that although there was a plane crash at Sikorsky Airport, no one appears to be injured or require hospitalization.

Washington, D.C. – Congresswoman Rosa L. DeLauro (Conn. – 3) announced $25 billion in bond authority available through the Treasury Department under the Recovery Zone Bonds program – for the state of Connecticut this means a bond volume cap allocation of $225 billion for counties and large cities – part of the effort to stimulate economic growth and jumpstart the availability of financing critical for economic recovery.

Washington, D.C. – Congresswoman Rosa L. DeLauro (Conn. – 3) announced that with the approval of their application, Connecticut will receive $363 million through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act to make investments in education reform and help save teaching jobs at risk of state and local budget cuts. Connecticut will be eligible to apply for another $179 million this fall.

Washington, D.C. – Congresswoman Rosa L. DeLauro (Conn. – 3) –citing basic right and wrong, common sense, and the H1N1 influenza outbreak – testified about the importance of the Healthy Families Act, which would allow millions of Americans to earn paid sick days, so they would no longer have to choose between their health, their family’s health and their jobs, at an Education and Labor Subcommittee on Workforce Protections hearing on the legislation.

Helps consumers purchase more fuel-efficient vehicles, while boosting auto sales

Washington, D.C. – Congresswoman Rosa L. DeLauro (D-CT) praised "cash for clunkers" legislation – the Consumer Assistance to Recycle and Save Act (H.R. 2751) – which would allow consumers to trade in their old, gas-guzzling vehicles and receive vouchers worth up to $4,500 to help pay for new, more fuel efficient cars and trucks. This will result in meaningful reductions in auto emissions and fuel consumption, while providing much-needed stimulus for our ailing automakers.
