Washington, D.C. – Congresswoman Rosa L. DeLauro (Conn. – 3) met with health care reform supporters from Connecticut during a town hall meeting on the issue sponsored by Health Care for America Now Town Hall. During her remarks DeLauro highlighted the unacceptability of the status quo and stated that Democrats in Congress and the President are fighting to ensure people have health care they can never lose; it includes mechanisms like a public option in the health exchange and focuses on prevention and wellness; and it shifts the power from the health insurance company to the consumer.

DeLauro (Conn. – 3) praised the National Defense Authorization Act for fiscal year 2010 (H.R. 2647) for its strong support of military personnel and their families. The benefits were established under the College Cost Reduction and Access Act, enacted in 2007, that provided an additional $20 billion in federal student aid for students at no additional cost to taxpayers.

DeLauro (Conn. – 3), chairwoman of the Agriculture, Rural Development, and Food and Drug Administration Appropriations Subcommittee, issued the following statement following the recall of Nestle Toll House refrigerated cookie dough products because of potential Escherichia coli 0157:H7 (E. Coli) contamination. It has been reported that 66 people in 28 states have become ill, 25 cases required hospitalization.
