WASHINGTON, DC – Today the House of Representatives passed H.R. 3082, the Fiscal Year 2010 Military Construction-Veterans Affairs Appropriations bill, which includes $9.1 million in new federal funding for the Connecticut Air National Guard at Bradley Airport requested jointly by the five members of the Connecticut Congressional delegation in the House. WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, the Connecticut Congressional delegation announced that the Connecticut Housing Finance Authority (CHFA) will receive $34 million from the U.S. Treasury Department from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) to spur the development of affordable housing across the state. In Connecticut, fewer houses are under construction, which means job losses in the building trades and related industries. And as more people are out of a job, affordable housing is in increasing demand.

Washington, D.C. – Congresswoman Rosa L. DeLauro (Conn. – 3) announced that the Connecticut Department of Transportation will receive over $2.3 million from the Federal Transit Administration through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act for projects in five Rural Transit Districts, including the Middletown Transit District.

"This funding will help to strengthen and improve Connecticut's mass transit system. In doing so we will promote the use of mass transit and reduce the harmful pollution that causes global warming, as well as create jobs," said DeLauro.

Since 1992, the Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) program has provided 65,000 grants to small companies engaged in cutting edge research to cure diseases, strengthen our national defense and reduce our dependence on foreign oil.

The bill was passed on a bipartisan basis (266-160) by the House of Representatives. It also needs to be voted on by the Senate, approved by both chambers and signed by the President.

Washington, D.C. – Congresswoman Rosa DeLauro (CT-3) welcomed the announcement that Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Connecticut's request to raise their individual health insurance policy rates by as much as 32 percent was denied by the Connecticut Insurance Department. Earlier this week, DeLauro, joined by Congressman Joe Courtney (CT-2) wrote to Anthem President David Fusco urging the company to withdraw the increase that is expected to affect over 55,000 Connecticut residents.

DeLauro (Conn.-3) applauded the Energy and Water Appropriations Bill for fiscal year 2010 for its support of all areas of energy, significant investments in critical infrastructure, and advancement of non-proliferation efforts. The bill was approved by the full Appropriations Committee Tuesday [7 July] evening and will now be debated by the House, following passage there, the legislation will also need to be voted on by the Senate, approved by both chambers and signed by the President.
