$225,000 Grant to Crime Reduction and Quality of Life Improvement Project

Connecticut Hospitals to Benefit from Recovery Act Funding

DeLauro (D-CT) today heralded the announcement by the Department of Health and Human Services that $13.4 million in Recovery Act funding has been made available for loan repayments to nurses who agree to practice in facilities with critical shortages and for schools of nursing to provide loans to students who will become nurse faculty.
Underscores unacceptability of status-quo, reinforces urgent need for health reform
New Haven, CT – Congresswoman Rosa DeLauro (CT-3) reiterated the urgent need for health care reform as a new report showing family health care premiums rose almost 7.4 times faster than earnings for Connecticut's workers between 2000 and 2009 was released by Families USA. Further, the report, "Costly Coverage: Premiums Outpace Paychecks In Connecticut," found that in the 10-year period, family health insurance premiums rose by 95.9 percent, while median earnings rose by only 13.0 percent.

"I am deeply saddened by the passing of Eunice Kennedy Shriver early this morning. She was an extraordinary woman who accomplished so much for men and women with intellectual disabilities and others in need. Eunice illuminated the world with her dedication, her bravery and her vision. Her death is a loss to the entire nation and we will miss her deeply. My thoughts and prayers go out to the Kennedy and Shriver families at this difficult time."
New Haven, CT – Congresswoman Rosa DeLauro (CT-3) praised the work of the Agricultural Research Service, part of the U.S. Department of Agriculture, which released the findings of a six-year study – part of the Northeast Areawide Tick Control Project – showing that a device called the "4-poster" Deer Treatment Bait Station is highly effective at reducing the number of ticks infected with the Lyme disease bacterium.
East Hartford, CT – U.S. Representatives Rosa L. DeLauro (CT-3), Joe Courtney (CT-2) and Chris Murphy (CT-5) joined with the International Association of Machinists to keep good-paying jobs in Connecticut.
