Today, Representatives Rosa DeLauro (CT-03) and Earl Blumenauer (D-OR), Senators Chris Coons (D-DE), Secretary of State Madeleine Albright, and national leaders in civic education applauded the inclusion of critical provisions to sustain the Harry S. Truman Scholarship Foundation and the James Madison Memorial Fellowship Foundation in the America COMPETES Act. Language to support these congressionally chartered programs was originally included in DeLauro’s bipartisan Civics Secures Democracy Act.

House Appropriations Committee Chair Rosa DeLauro (D-CT-03) today announced $63 million in federal funding under the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law to complete the New Haven Harbor Navigation Improvement Project. This funding will be used to deepen the federal navigation channel within the New Haven Harbor, maneuvering area, and turning basin to allow larger vessels to efficiently access the Port of New Haven’s terminals. At the channel’s current depth, to reach the terminals, larger ships must lighten their weight outside the breakwaters and often experience delays while waiting for favorable tide conditions.
