This funding will be used to deepen the federal navigation channel within the New Haven Harbor, maneuvering area, and turning basin to allow larger vessels to efficiently access the Port of New Haven’s terminals. At the channel’s current depth, to reach the terminals, larger ships must lighten their weight outside the breakwaters and often experience delays while waiting for favorable tide conditions.
