Congresswoman Rosa DeLauro (D-CT), Chair of the Labor, Health and Human Services, Education, and Related Agencies Appropriations Subcommittee, and U.S. Senator Patty Murray (D-WA), ranking member of the Senate Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions (HELP) Committee, sent a letter to Acting Inspector General of the U.S. Department of Education (ED) Sandra Bruce calling for a review of the Department of Education’s execution of the CARES Act, federal coronavirus relief legislation aimed at protecting schools and providing them with the resources necessary to operate during a pandemic.

I was thrilled to hear about the opening of the new federally funded CT Department of Labor (CT DOL) Contact Center earlier today. Since mid-March, the Connecticut Department of Labor has received 708,000 claims for unemployment, which is roughly five years’ worth of claims, and at times there was a backlog of up to six weeks. With this unprecedented volume, and with my own office inundated with inquiries, I was happy to help provide the CTDOL with a total of $11M in federal coronavirus relief funding to help them process claims in a more timely and efficient manner. I look forward to this new service alleviating the anxiety felt by so many CT residents who were struggling to have their claims resolved.

Congresswoman Rosa DeLauro (CT-03), Co-Chair of the Long Island Sound Caucus, and the House Appropriations Committee, today approved by voice vote the Fiscal Year (FY) 2021 Interior-Environment spending bill that included $30.4 million for the Long Island Sound Geographic Program. This record funding is $9.4 million over the FY 2020 enacted level of $21 million.
