New Haven, CT— Congresswoman Rosa L. DeLauro (CT-3) delivered remarks this morning on how we have and--can continue to--grow Connecticut's economy by increasing global exports. The speech was part of a conference sponsored by the U.S. Commerce Department and Connecticut District Export Council. DeLauro is a longtime advocate for creating jobs and expanding Connecticut companies' ability to export by rebuilding our infrastructure, investing in manufacturing and ensuring they have the necessary tools to compete in a global economy. New Haven, CT— Congresswoman Rosa L. DeLauro (CT-3) led a panel discussion this morning on the importance of anti-hunger programs critical for Connecticut children, families and seniors. The panel, held in New Haven, focused on the impact proposed cuts to food stamps and other critical programs would have in Connecticut and across the nation and what actions their supporters need to take to prevent those cuts. Over 405,000 people rely on food stamps in Connecticut alone.

New Haven, CT—Congresswoman Rosa L. DeLauro (CT-3) visited the John Lyman School in Middlefield today, touring classrooms and seeing part of a school assembly on ‘My American Dream.' The Congresswoman also met with first and second graders who had a perfect participation rate in Rosa's Readers, a reading program she created. Rosa's Readers asks first grade students to read at least 20 books outside the classroom with parents, siblings, relatives and teachers, increasing their interest in reading. Thousands of students have participated in the program since it began in 2001.

New Haven, CT— Connecticut Congresswoman Rosa L. DeLauro toured several Middletown small businesses today, celebrating their contributions to Connecticut's economy and hearing their concerns about the nation's economy. DeLauro also discussed federal initiatives to help small business owners, including the principles laid out in her own jobs plan. Joining the tour were Middletown Mayor Daniel Drew and Quentin Phipps, Executive Director of the Downtown Business District.

DeLauro is a longtime advocate for ensuring our food supply is safe and meets current health standards. As former Chairwoman and current Member of the House Agriculture-FDA Appropriations Subcommittee, she has worked to ensure the agencies responsible for protecting our food supply are adequately funded.

Washington, DC— Congresswoman Rosa DeLauro (CT-3), Ranking Member on the Labor, Health and Human Services, and Education Appropriations Subcommittee, made the following statement on the Majority’s bill to offset a one year freeze on interest rates for federally subsidized Stafford loans with elimination of the Prevention and Public Health Fund. “The Republican majority in this House is involved in a political shell game on this issue. They have voted to eliminate the Prevention and Public Health Fund.
