Legislation would make theft of memorials a federal crime


New Haven, CT – Representatives Rosa DeLauro and Chris Murphy held a press conference today to discuss the Protect Veterans' Memorials Act, which would make transporting stolen veterans memorials, monuments or plaques of any value across state lines a federal crime. Introduced last month in response to the recent thefts of veterans' memorials across the state, the legislation would impose strict federal penalties on those who commit these crimes.

WASHINGTON — Connecticut Senators Joe Lieberman and Richard Blumenthal and Representatives Rosa DeLauro and Chris Murphy announced Wednesday that fire departments in Hamden and Danbury will receive $448,520 from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security's Assistance to Firefighters Grants program (AFG). The grants will be used to purchase critical emergency equipment.

WASHINGTON – Connecticut Senators Joe Lieberman (ID-CT) and Richard Blumenthal (D-CT) and Representatives Rosa DeLauro (CT-3) and Jim Himes (CT-4) announced Wednesday that fire departments in Branford, North Branford, Poquonock, Ridgefield, and Bridgeport will receive a total of over $450,000 from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security's Assistance to Firefighters Grants program (AFG). The grants will be used for fire operations and firefighter safety.

New Haven, CT— Congresswoman Rosa DeLauro (CT-3) released the following statement in recognition of Connecticut's paid sick day law going into effect on January 1, 2012.

Congresswoman DeLauro introduced the Healthy Families Act, federal paid sick day legislation, in 2004. This bill would enable workers to earn 1 hour of paid sick leave for every 30 hours worked, adding up to 7 days' worth of paid leave.

(Hartford, CT) - Today, the Connecticut Congressional Delegation announced over $51 million dollars in disaster relief funds for the Connecticut Department of Transportation in the wake of both Hurricane Irene and the October snowstorm. Two separate grants were awarded through the U.S. Department of Transportation's Emergency Relief Program and will go toward repair and reconstruction of roads that were damaged as a result of the storms.
