One of 23 Awarded To Small Businesses Nationwide

NEW HAVEN, CT—Congresswoman Rosa DeLauro (CT-3) today announced Precision Combustion, Inc. has won the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA)’s Tibbetts Award. Precision Combustion was one of 23 small businesses, six individuals and three organizations to win the award nationwide. DeLauro wrote to the SBA in support of Precision Combustion’s nomination in April. A copy of that letter can be viewed here.

Funding Will Provide Employment Services to People Transitioning From Jail Back to the Community

WASHINGTON, DC—Congresswoman Rosa DeLauro (CT-3) released the following statement today applauding the news New Haven’s Workforce Alliance, Inc. has won a $500,000 grant to provide career services to inmates in the six months before their release and continuing during their transition back into the broader community. The services will be available at the New Haven Correctional Center.

WASHINGTON, DC—Congresswomen Rosa DeLauro (D-CT) and Linda Sánchez (D-CA) today introduced the Wise Investment in our Children (WIC) Act. The bill would increase the age limit for children participating in the Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) for one additional year, from five to six.

WASHINGTON, DC—Language authored by Congresswoman Rosa DeLauro (D-CT) that would continue the strong ban on Defense Department (DOD) contracts with Rosoboronexport was approved by the House of Representatives Appropriations Committee today. The provision was included in legislation funding the Department of Defense for fiscal year 2016.

DeLauro has led congressional opposition to DOD’s relationship with Rosoboronexport, the Russian state arms dealer. That opposition led to the Pentagon canceling a planned future purchase of helicopters from Rosoboronexport.

NEW HAVEN, CT—Congresswoman Rosa DeLauro (CT-3) today joined public health officials and children’s advocates to warn Connecticut families about leaving children and pets in hot cars. They highlighted the “Where’s Baby: Look Before You Lock” campaign, a partnership between the Connecticut Children’s Medical Center, Yale-New Haven Children’s Hospital, the Connecticut Department of Transportation and Safe Kids Connecticut.

NEW HAVEN, CT—Congresswoman Rosa DeLauro (CT-3) today joined Wallingford families to call for greater federal investment in child care. Connecticut is among the most expensive states for child care, with annual fees for a four-year-old in full-time care in a child care center averaging over $11,000. By contrast, annual tuition and fees at Connecticut public colleges average just over $10,000.
