NEW HAVEN, CT—Congresswoman Rosa DeLauro (CT-3) today unveiled legislation inspired by the plight of veterans at the Seacrest and HighVue retirement homes. The Veterans Residential Care Choice Act would allow the Veterans Administration (VA) to pay for eligible veterans to live at residential care facilities, such as Seacrest and HighVue.

DeLauro is the senior Democrat on the Labor-Health and Human Services-Education Appropriations Subcommittee. The Republican Majority is cutting over $3.7 billion from programs under that subcommittee’s jurisdiction.

Hartford, CT – The Connecticut Congressional Delegation announced today $2.6 million from the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs for the expansion and renovation of the Connecticut State Veterans Cemetery in Middletown. The grant will fund the construction of roads, landscaping and infrastructure over three acres, and will accommodate respectful storage of 3,000 additional cinerary urns.

They worked on “waking up” one of the school’s courtyard gardens for spring planting, which involves weeding and cleaning the garden before planting vegetables, fruits, spices and flowers.
