Public-Private Partnership Would Create Jobs and Bolster the Economy

WASHINGTON, DC—Congresswoman Rosa DeLauro (D-CT) announced today that she is reintroducing the National Infrastructure Development Bank Act. The bill would create and fund a public bank to leverage public and private dollars for meritorious infrastructure projects of national or regional significance.

She also announced her opposition to legislation before the House of Representatives that would place unprecedented restrictions on how women with private insurance can spend private dollars when purchasing health insurance. Calls for Enforceable Standards, Not Voluntary Guidelines

WASHINGTON, DC—Congresswoman Rosa DeLauro (D-CT) released the following statement today on news that the Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) has issued the first ever performance standards for Salmonella and Campylobacter for raw poultry parts and updated standards for ground poultry. DeLauro is a senior member of the subcommittee responsible for funding the United States Department of Agriculture, which FSIS falls under.

WASHINGTON, DC—Congresswoman Rosa DeLauro (CT-3) announced today that John Barto, Vice President and General Manager of the now-closed Ansonia Specialty Metals, is her guest to this evening’s State of the Union address. Ansonia Specialty Metals was forced to close after trade deals increased competition from Mexico, Germany and Korea. Ansonia Specialty Metals was subsequently undercut by businesses from those countries, resulting in the demise of a Connecticut company that dated back to 1847.

NEW HAVEN, CT—Congresswoman Rosa DeLauro (CT-3) today joined administrators from Gateway, Middlesex and Naugatuck Valley community colleges to call on Congress to pass the America’s College Promise program proposed by President Obama last Friday. Governor Malloy has said that Connecticut will participate if the proposal becomes law. Approximately 57,000 students are currently enrolled in classes at Connecticut’s 12 community colleges.

NEW HAVEN, CT—Congresswoman Rosa DeLauro (CT-3) today applauded the news that Connecticut is receiving a $1.2 million grant to develop and implement a program that will help employers keep American workers on the job. The funds are authorized under a provision in the Middle Class Tax Relief and Job Creation Act of 2012 that was based on part of DeLauro’s Layoff Prevention Act. Twenty-nine states, including Connecticut have work share laws in place and the federal funding will support implementation and improvement of their programs.

Hartford, CT – The Connecticut Congressional delegation today issued a joint statement applauding $10 million in federal funds to improve water quality throughout the Long Island Sound watershed. The funds were among $370 million awarded nationwide by the United States Department of Agriculture’s new Regional Conservation Partnership Program, which seeks to enhance water quality, support wildlife habitats and enhance the environment.
