$1.6 million for facilities in 3rd Congressional District
Washington, DC – Congresswoman Rosa L. DeLauro (Conn. -3) announced that Connecticut will receive nearly $4.1 million for improvements to military facilities through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act, including $1.6 million for facilities in New Haven, Stratford and Waterbury.

Centers in 3rd Congressional to receive nearly $1.63 million
Washington, DC – Congresswoman Rosa L. DeLauro (Conn. -3) announced that Connecticut will receive nearly $3.8 million through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act for Community Health Centers, including $1.63 million for those in the 3rd district. This funding for Connecticut will allow community health centers to expand services and will result in an estimated 68 new or retained jobs, 20,143 new patients served, and 7,944 new uninsured patients served.
Washington, DC – Congresswoman Rosa L. DeLauro (Conn. -3) announced Social Security and Supplemental Security Income (SSI) beneficiaries will receive $250 payments from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act beginning in early May 2009 and continuing throughout the month. No action is necessary to receive the $250, which will be sent separately from the regular monthly payment.
Washington, DC – Congresswoman Rosa L. DeLauro (Conn. -3) announced that Connecticut will receive $24.5 million through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act for energy efficiency improvements, including $4.6 million for towns in the 3rd district and $9.6 million for State Energy Office. The Energy Efficiency and Block Grant Program will provide funding for projects that reduce total energy use and fossil fuel emissions and improve energy efficiency.
Inspector General report reinforces no adequate traceability system
Washington, D.C. – Congresswoman Rosa L. DeLauro (CT-3), chairwoman of the House Agriculture, Rural Development, Food and Drug Administration Appropriations Subcommittee, delivered the following opening statement during a subcommittee food safety oversight hearing examining traceability – additional authorities the agency needs and what existing authorities already in place the FDA may have to facilitate or better enforce trace-back capabilities. DeLauro (Conn. -3) announced that public housing authorities in eight towns, including Ansonia, New Haven, Middletown, Milford, Naugatuck, Seymour, Stratford, and West Haven, will be able to spend $9.9 million in federal funding through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act to address long-standing improvements to public housing units, create jobs, and increase energy efficiency.
Washington, DC – U.S. Senators Olympia Snowe (R-ME) and Mary Landrieu (D-LA) and U.S. Representatives Rosa L. DeLauro (D-CT) and Joe Barton (R-TX) renewed their effort to end drive-through mastectomies by reintroducing The Breast Cancer Patient Protection Act. The legislation will help to ensure that breast cancer patients have access to appropriate care by allowing a woman and her doctor to decide whether she should recuperate from a mastectomy or lumpectomy in the hospital for up to 48 hours or whether she has enough support to get quality care at home.
North Branford, CT – During a visit to North Branford Police Headquarters to meet with members of the town's Police and Fire Departments, Congresswoman Rosa L. DeLauro (CT-3), joined by North Branford Town Manager Richard Branigan and Police Chief Matthew Canelli, announced that North Branford will receive $500,000 in federal funding for the purchase and installation of a public safety radio communications simulcast system, which will greatly enhance dispatching capabilities and eliminate several "dead zones" throughout the town.
New Haven, CT – Congresswoman Rosa L. DeLauro (CT-3) recognized Raymond Ciarlelli for his service to the nation during World War II, presenting him with five long-overdue medals, including the Army of Occupation medal, Asiatic Pacific Campaign medal, WWII medal, Rifleman Medal, and the State of Connecticut Service Medal. Additionally, DeLauro presented Ciarlelli with a special Congressional military certificate.
