Needed for help with debris cleanup, repairing severe beach erosion, preparing for future storms

New Haven, CT — Congresswoman Rosa DeLauro (CT-3) called upon the Army Corps of Engineers to tour the 3rd Congressional District areas impacted by Tropical Storm Irene and to assist in the recovery efforts. The Army Corps of Engineers provides assistance to areas impacted by disasters. Connecticut's shoreline was heavily impacted by the storm, and the Army Corps's assistance is needed to address resulting debris and beach erosion.

Residents, Businesses: Call 2-1-1 To Report Damage

WASHINGTON – All seven members of Connecticut’s congressional delegation Thursday urged President Obama to visit the state and observe first-hand the devastation caused by Hurricane Irene.

In a letter to the President, the delegation cited major flooding caused by five Connecticut rivers, coastal surge, and wave damage to support the case for an emergency declaration for the state.

New Haven, CT— Congresswoman Rosa DeLauro (CT-3) spoke to Connecticut officials, representatives from United Illuminating and Connecticut Light & Power, and FEMA officials today and urged the companies to increase their efforts to restore power to residents. The Congresswoman also offered her assistance by calling for more utility crews to be sent to the state, and urged the utility companies to improve coordination with state and local officials to better serve residents and to speed the recovery process.

Rule Released as Part of Health Care Reform Law Provides Consumers with Key Information about their Health Benefits and Coverage

Washington, DC— Details of a new piece of the health care reform law were released today, which are based on a bill introduced Congresswoman Rosa L. DeLauro (D-CT) and by Senator Jay Rockefeller (D-WV). The provision will make sure that consumers can easily understand their health coverage and determine the best health insurance options for themselves and their families.

Shows 1 in 4 American families with children could not afford food in the last year

Washington, DC—Congresswoman Rosa L. DeLauro (CT-3) released the following statement on the Food Research and Action Center (FRAC) report, "Food Hardship in America." The report details how Americans are struggling in these tough economic times, and the numbers are even higher for those families with children. In 2010, the food hardship rate for households without children was 14.9 percent; for families with children, it was 23.4 percent.
