Earlier this month, the Connecticut United Way published a report showing that a family of four making just enough to get by would need to spend almost as much on child care alone as on food, transportation, and health care put together – almost 30 percent of the household budget.

Funding Will Increase Public Access to Private Farms and Forests across the State

NEW HAVEN, CT—Congresswoman Rosa DeLauro (CT-3) today applauded the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA)’s announcement that the Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection (DEEP) has won a $612,500 grant under the Voluntary Public Access and Habitat Incentives Program. DeLauro is a member of the subcommittee responsible for funding USDA, and served as the Chairwoman of that subcommittee from 2007-2010.

NEW HAVEN, CT—Congresswoman Rosa DeLauro (D-CT) released the following statement today celebrating the 80th birthday of the Social Security Act.

“Social Security is the ultimate legislative expression of our nation’s shared values and has tied generations together for 80 years. Along with Medicare, Medicaid and now the Affordable Care Act, it is the bedrock of our American social insurance system, and part of our moral duty to keep retired Americans from falling into poverty.

NEW HAVEN, CT—Congresswoman Rosa DeLauro (D-CT) released the following statement today upon the news that Coca-Cola is funding “research” on weight loss that ignores dietary linkages. DeLauro is the sponsor of The SWEET Act, which would institute a tax of one cent per teaspoon of caloric sweetener, such as sugar or high-fructose corn syrup.

WASHINGTON, DC—Congresswoman Rosa DeLauro (D-CT) and Anna Eshoo (D-CA) today called on the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) to explain why they denied 85 percent of claims filed by women and Hispanic farmers who were discriminated against by USDA’s farm loan program between 1981 and 2000.
